John Joseph Swanson Sr., 64, of Chester, a lifelong resident of the city, died Oct. 10 at home.

Born, reared and educated in Chester, Mr. Swanson lived in the city throughout his life. He was previously employed by C.L. Myers Co. of Chester for many years until the plant closed.

He belonged to the Franklin Fire Co. of Chester, where he served as a trustee and vice-president. Mr. Swanson also belonged to Blessed Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Chester.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Jean Crandon of Lutz, Fla., and Anna Marie Jasko of Virginia; three sons, John J. Swanson Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Michael A. Swanson of Chester and Marc E. Swanson of Lutz, Fla.; his mother, Carmella Scarpato Swanson of Chester; two brothers, Matthew R. Swanson of Folsom, Ridley Township, and Donald J. Swanson Sr. of Chester; a sister, Diana M. Billinger of Parkside; a dear friend, Lois Maliko of Nesqueboning, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late William H. Swanson Jr., who died in 1981, and the brother of the late William H. "Bobo" Swanson III, who died in 1991, and the late Bernard "Stump" Swanson, who died in 1979.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 20th Street and Providence Avenue, Chester. Burial is in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Upper Chichester. Calling hours are after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 2316 Providence Ave., Chester.

Notes: Mr. Swanson was born 4/26/1932.
